The numbers behind the savings
Delivered nitrogen is a bill that keeps coming, but you buy a generator once
It's Friday afternoon. A customer's parts are due Monday, and the laser is loaded for a lights-out run through the weekend. Before you lock up, you check the next nitrogen delivery date one more time, because if the gas runs short over the weekend, Monday's parts don't get cut.
This month's gas bill is already on your desk, next to the same supply contract, up for renewal again.
Here's what each delivered option costs per CCF, from bottles all the way to a bulk tank.
| How the nitrogen reaches you | What you pay | How you buy it |
|---|---|---|
High-pressure bottles | Up to $25.00+ per CCF | On an ongoing contract |
Liquid dewar | Up to $5.50+ per CCF | On an ongoing contract |
Liquid bulk tank | Up to $1.00+ per CCF | On an ongoing contract |

Liquid bulk is the cheapest line on that table, and you still pay it again every month. Making your own nitrogen comes in at 50-90% savings when compared to liquid bulk.

A generator turns that repeat bill into a machine you own, with an average ROI of 12-14 months. Here's a company that already made that trade.

Before and after, at one company
Morey traded bulk nitrogen delivery for two generators and a $20,000 monthly margin
Morey isn't a laser shop; it designs and manufactures electronics
It serves the commercial vehicle space, and it relies on nitrogen for soldering and for storing the components it makes until they're tested.
Before
bulk nitrogen delivery, with high costs, the risk of a supply cutoff and contracts it couldn't change.
After
two nitrogen generators on its own floor delivering 99.999% N2, backed by an air compressor, a refrigerated compressed air dryer, filtration, storage tanks and performance monitoring tools.
“This decision wasn't just about reducing cost; it was about strengthening our operational resilience. Bringing nitrogen generation in-house gives us greater control, long-term cost visibility and a more reliable production environment.”
Ryne DeBoer, CEO and President, Morey
The whole story is in our write-up, With South-Tek's Help, Morey Cuts Nitrogen Costs by $270,000 with On-Premises Generation. So how does a machine on your floor replace the truck?
How the generator makes nitrogen
Compressed air goes in, nitrogen comes out
Bottles, a dewar and a bulk tank only change how the nitrogen gets to you. The gas is still made somewhere else and brought in on a truck. A generator makes it on your floor, from air your own compressor moves.
Our laser generators use dual-bed PSA, short for Pressure Swing Adsorption. Think of the two tables on a laser's pallet changer: one is in the machine cutting while the other is being loaded, then they swap. The two sieve beds inside the generator take turns the same way.
- Air in. Air from your compressor fills a bed packed with carbon molecular sieve.
- The sieve holds. The oxygen, the CO2 and the other molecules stay in the sieve, and the nitrogen goes on through.
- The beds swap. The full bed drops its pressure and flushes out what it held while the other bed makes nitrogen, so the nitrogen keeps coming all weekend while the laser runs lights-out.
Will a generator keep up at peak flow?
The Laser Series delivers nitrogen at peak flow rate while you're cutting, and High Pressure Fill stores up volume for spikes in demand, then refills in the low-demand hours.
Will the purity hold my edge quality?
Laser Series nitrogen comes out 99.90 to 99.99% pure, dry, clean and low dew point, and High Pressure Fill gives you 99.99% pure nitrogen for shiny, burr-free edges. We certify purity in-house with oxygen analyzers accurate to plus or minus 2 PPM, and if you want a second opinion, we offer third-party verification by chromatography.
Which setup fits your lasers
Four laser setups, each built for a different job
We engineer every system to the purity and flow rate your lasers need
Laser Series, for high-production fabricators who run long hours, keep beam-on time high or cut lights-out. It feeds multiple lasers and runs 24/7.- High Pressure Fill, for shops cutting a mix of material types and thicknesses. Its flexible storage covers the most assist gas you need in a day.
Laser Purge, for the fiber laser head or bellow purge process. It's a compact unit, and with it you only pay for the high-purity nitrogen that process needs.- N2GEN S, custom engineered for the biggest flow demands, at 95 to 99.999% nitrogen purity, with an optional turnkey package that brings its own air compressor, dryer and/or booster.
Got an unusual process? We also build nitrogen generators to order for it.

Who builds it
We've built nitrogen generators in Wilmington, NC, since 2003
- That's more than 20 years of engineering on-site air and gas generation.
- Our systems last 18-24 years, depending on maintenance.
- On select models, Smart-Trak adds a touchscreen control display and lets you keep an eye on the generator from your phone.

Get a quote sized to your lasers
Here's what to pick on the form so we know it's a laser nitrogen quote
- Set Purpose of Your Inquiry to Request for Quote.
- Pick Nitrogen Generators as the Product Category.
- Choose Laser Industry under Interest.
- Add your name, company and email, and let us know if you've bought from South-Tek before.
That covers all seven required fields. The comments box is optional, but it's a great spot to tell us how many lasers you run, what you cut and what you pay for nitrogen today. You can also tell us how you'd like us to reach you.
From there, we engineer the system to your lasers and quote it, so you can see what you'd save.
Request a quoteQuestions
What shops ask before they switch
What about my air compressor?
The generator runs on compressed air, and High Pressure Fill cuts down on electrical and compressed air demand. If your shop compressor can't spare the air, the N2GEN S turnkey package brings its own.
What if my demand grows?
High Pressure Fill expands easily as you need it to.
Why isn't there a price on this page?
The price depends on the model and how it's configured, so we size the system to your lasers first and then quote it.
Why now
Every month on delivered gas is one more bill
A generator is a one-time capital expense. Delivered gas is a bill every month, at up to $1.00+ per CCF even on a bulk tank.
It's Friday afternoon, and Monday's parts are loaded for a lights-out run through the weekend. This time the generator on your floor is making the nitrogen from your own compressed air, 24/7, so you lock up without checking a delivery date.
Monday morning the parts are cut and ready. There's no delivered-gas bill on your desk and no supply contract to renew, because the nitrogen came off a machine you own.
